Cologne singer Katy Sedna gave a house concert in Wülfrath-Düssel
This Sea Goddess Makes a Gift of Her Songs
by R. Mairose-Gundermann – translated by Particia Karbe
"Sedna, the Inuit sea goddess gives fish to mankind. My gift
is my songs."
Katy Sedna was born in Germany but has double citizenship through
her German father and American mother. "I am at home in both
cultures", she said. "People interest me. It's like
getting to know a new world. The question is, what's normal?"
This was her introduction to the song "I lost my mind"
in her house concert in Düssel. Through her songs, which
she accompanies very melodiously and much feeling on her guitar,
she leads the audience into her world.
"Politics, as I understand it, means putting my own world
in order." Her texts – both the songs and the spoken
introductions –always have something personal, at times
autobiographical, about them. Her song "Ashes, ashes, we
all fall down" was inspired by the children's song "Ring
around the rosies", which has its macabre origins in the
time of the plague. "If you think a lot about death, as I
once did, you realize how wonderful life is", she says with
a smile.
